The Vatican has suspended a senior German Church leader dubbed the "bishop of bling" by the media over his alleged lavish spending.

Bishop of Limburg Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst is accused of spending more than 31m euros (£26m; $42m) on renovating his official residence.

The Vatican said it deemed "appropriate... a period of leave from the diocese" for the bishop.

The suspension comes two days after he met the Pope to discuss the matter.

The luxury residence that helped German bishop Franz Peter Tebartz-van Elst earn the nickname ‘The Bishop of Bling’ may be turned into a soup kitchen or refugee centre.

The complex in Limburg was renovated at a cost of 31 million-euros (£26.4 million), a figure that has sparked outrage in Germany.

However, it may now be used for the benefit of the needy, according to a newspaper report.

'OBEY YOUR CONSCIENCE'...

The Pope’s new right-hand man has called for ‘discussion’ on the issue of celibacy within the Catholic Church.

Archbishop Pietro Parolin, the new secretary of state of the Vatican, told Venezuelan newspaper El Universal that celibacy is tradition rather than law, and should be open to discussion.

He said the Church must ‘reflect the democratic spirit of the times’ and take the opinions of its members into account.

In final years at Liberty, Falwell spent millions on pro-Trump causes

Former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr.’s decision to spend millions of university dollars on Republican political causes followed an executive order by President Donald Trump directing the Internal Revenue Service to avoid whenever possible investigating religious organizations veering into politics.

Trump issued the order in 2017. The following year, under Falwell’s leadership, the university directed more than $3 million to conservative organizations. In 2019, it created a think tank that purchased Facebook ads featuring Trump’s image and the slogan “Pray For Our President,” produced a podcast that amplified Trump’s claims of a stolen election, and recently staged a strategy session for the 2021 elections that featured only Republican politicians.

After saying a prayer for Ukraine, where at least three people were killed during the latest clashes that have seen Kiev in flames, the Pontiff helped schoolchildren release the doves from the window of the Apostolic Palace as a peace gesture.

But they were immediately attacked. The seagull pinned one of the doves against the wall of the palace and pecked at its tail, but was left with a mouthful of feathers as its victim made an escape.

The crow caught the smaller bird unawares, as it rested on a windowsill, before pecking at it repeatedly.  Again, the victim managed to get away.

The girls are now karate black belts, but because of their particular Christian beliefs, they have also decided to do battle, they say, against evil spirits or demons. They believe that these demons can possess a human being and cause suffering, depression or addiction.

"What happens is when someone sins or does something, or something's done to them that allows the demon to come into them, that's called the legal right or the reason that it's there."

Polishing Diamonds’ to Tinker With Cars, Mow Lawns

If there's one thing we know about Pat Robertson — he doesn't mince words.
The televangelist, and former GOP presidential candidate, delivered another zinger Monday, when he welcomed conservative activist, Lapin was there to promote his book “Business Secrets From the Bible” about making money.
Robertson started the interview by asking, “What is it about Jewish people that make them prosper financially? You almost never find Jews tinkering with their cars on the weekends or mowing their lawns.”
Lapin didn't appear the least bit surprised or insulted. In fact, he agreed with Robertson. “No, I pay one of the best mechanics around to take care of my BMW. That's what I do. I'd be crazy to take my time doing it myself,” Lapin said. “Or for me to mow my lawn, I'm the worse lawn mower in the world, but the young man who lives down the street from me, he's one of the best and he's happy to do it. I'm happy.” Later in the interview, Robertson joked that Jews are “polishing diamonds, not fixing cars.”
